How to Move: Kettlebell Swing

Kettlebell Swings are one of our favorite movements! They can provide a quick and effective, full body workout. Kettlebells move easily so we can take them outdoors or even travel with them. Swings promote posterior chain development which is important to almost all human movement. They can be used to develop conditioning and they’re relatively easy to learn.

Here are some tips to help you out:

  • Setup with your feet just outside of shoulder width

  • Hinge by driving the hips back and dropping the torso

  • Keep the knees soft

  • Grip the KB and drive it back through your legs by engaging your lats

  • Snap your hips aggressively and allow the KB to move overhead

  • Remain tight (standing plank) at the top

  • Allow the KB to swing back down between your legs

  • Stay patient and avoid hinging too early on the return

  • Avoid allowing the KB to travel below your knees

  • Keep your grip only firm enough to hold on. Avoid gripping too hard

  • Return the KB to the ground and into the same starting position when you’re through swinging
